Meet the Butterfly Playing Cards

If you've just come across our store and never had a deck of Butterfly Playing Cards, this article is for you.

You may have seen our cards used in some videos. Perhaps you watched Ondrej Psenicka, the creator of these playing cards and our founder, successfully fool Penn & Teller with them. Maybe you have seen them mentioned in multiple lists among the best marked decks. As Dani DaOrtiz says, "Maybe, maybe!"

It doesn't matter how you found us. Welcome! We're happy you arrived here.

Let's dive right into the main thing...

What are Butterfly Playing Cards?

They are unique playing cards created specifically for magic. They are marked in such a way that you always know the position of every single card in the deck.

This in itself is very powerful. One of the basic effects you can do with the borderless Butterflies is to cut to any card called for. Your spectator can name any card, and you can immediately cut to its position. Considering it's still in the deck, of course.

But that's just the proverbial tip of the iceberg. There are so many more things you can perform with the Butterfly Playing Cards.

  • Name the selected card after the deck was shuffled by your spectator.
  • Present yourself as an excellent gambler as you stack yourself the winning poker hand without looking at the cards' faces.
  • Find out which card is missing in the deck.
  • Correctly name the multiple cards chosen by your spectator.
  • Catch a card named by the spectator in mid-air.
  • And more!

Ondrej explains all of these effects and more (12 in total) in the two-hour tutorial included in the Original 3rd Edition Butterfly decks

This deck is the core of the Butterfly Playing Cards family, and we strongly recommend getting it as your first Butterfly deck.

You can then use what you learn in the tutorial with other borderless Butterfly decks, for example, the Seasons editions.

We have already mentioned the word borderless a few times. It is a term for playing cards with back designs extending to the edges.

There are bordered Butterfly decks, namely the Workers Edition, which are also marked. But the true magic and power hide within the borderless editions.

We hope we gave the answer you were looking for.
