The Most Colorful Butterfly Playing Cards

The most colorful Butterfly Playing Cards are definitely the Seasons editions. We discuss their creation and history in this article.

The Bordered Edition

Butterfly Playing Cards Seasons Edition Bordered

This was the first time we released Butterfly Playing Cards with more than one color used in the back design. After the Futterfly Playing Cards, which Ondrej initially made for his second appearance on Penn & Teller: Fool Us, these were just the second Butterflies with a bordered design.

We did not just color the backs. We also fitted the court cards, Aces, and Jokers with matching colors to their respective back designs. All of the design and color artwork on these was done by the insanely talented Czech artist, Tereza Kovandová.

This bordered edition was made with mainly cardists and collectors in mind. We printed just 1.000 of each season, and we were absolutely blown away by the response. Each edition sold out faster than the one before, and the Winter sold out in just 8 minutes! That was a huge achievement for us.

The bordered Spring deck won the Best Magic Deck award and placed second in the Best Use of Color category in the Deck of the Year Awards 2021 (DOTY).

We saved a very small portion of each edition for Valentine's Day 2022. On that day, we released a special collector set with all four bordered Seasons decks and a Deck Zero. There were 100 sets, and all came in engraved Carat X5 Cases.

The Borderless Edition

The bordered edition was mostly a collector's item, but we knew we wanted to offer magicians the possibility to bring colors to their shows. So, in 2022, we released the borderless Seasons decks.

This edition features our trademark marking system, allowing you to perform powerful magic effects with almost no sleight of hand. The decks come with an explanation of the marking system, but if you'd like to learn about the full potential of Butterfly Playing Cards, visit here.

We adjusted the colors for each season to accommodate the markings, so they remain easy to read even in such colorful designs. We made all four Seasons decks brighter.

This marked edition features matte tuck boxes made out of black cardboard, instead of the black-painted tuck boxes from the bordered edition.

The Conclusion

We love the Seasons decks, and we hope you'll enjoy them too if you decide to get them. They are printed on Cartamundi's Slimline stock, which makes them very thin, yet snappy.

We hope you enjoyed this article! 🦋
